The time has come! December 31st, New Year’s Eve. A time to celebrate the start of something new. A time to make new promises and resolutions; some to be broken, some to be kept. A time to look ahead and try to change things for the better. A time to look behind and see what we may have done well and what we may have done wrong. For me, it is a moment to reflect, to be thankful, to think about everything we have learned, everything that have changed and to improve yourself learning from your success and mistakes.
The growing of mvtrends was amazing this year and it was because of YOU! I can't even thank you guys enough for all the support. That's why I wanna share with you some of the biggest highlights and also open up about some obstacles we faced during the last year. But hey, everything we've went through have made us stronger!
"I've always been a believer in making things happen for yourself and creating your own dreams."
Exactly a year ago I decided to make mvtrends exclusively a fashion blog. For those of you who didn't know, I started mvtrends on August 2014 as an online store promoting and selling accessories. At first, I created the blog to support the website. However, the blog was always my ultimate goal and I decided to risk everything to follow my dream and creating a project that I felt really passionate about.
"You can only learn and grow by stepping out of your comfort zone once in a while."
Before I sat behind my laptop I read through the reflection I did on New Year’s Eve 2014 and I just realized how much everything has changed. I feel I've lived amazing experiences that not only changed my life and made me grown, but also, they created memories that will last forever.
Nothing I've accomplished this year has been made only by myself because I've had the most amazing friends and family who have supported me on every step I've taken. They had been the best counselors and judges. And my mom, my biggest inspiration.
"Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher."
On February, I'd the opportunity of meeting the team of "Aguapanela Magazine" and we connected right away! I wrote two fashion articles for two of their latest edition and it was a great learning experience because It was my first time ever working with a magazine. I also helped them organizing a huge event they did in Miami and besides of meeting amazing people, I learned a lot! Couldn't ask for a better opportunity to start my blog with the right foot.
Another huge highlight for mvtrends started on March when I got an internship at a PR Agency, a place that have changed my life and the future of the blog. This place has opened me a hundred of doors and it was there where I met the best mentor someone can ever have in this industry; Marines Duarte. I've learned so much from her and from her amazing parenting blog "En Tus Zapatos" that I've started to see things in a different perspective, I've realized that I'm capable of doing great things! Now, I work part time at the Agency and I'm so happy to be learning from very talented people.
"Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what you truly want to become"
I need to confess that even when I always wanted to be a blogger, I never thought of myself as one. One more time, life has prove me that when you work hard for what you want, you'll accomplish even your craziest dreams. The opportunity of being at Despierta America in Univision still feels so surreal! I can't believe I'm giving fashion advices on TV and all the support I've got from people who watch the show. Can someone pinch me? It still feels like a beautiful dream!
Live Doral Magazine has also opened me the doors to be a fashion contributor for the magazine. We've created great content and hopefully, we'll develop great plans we have for next year!
This year, I also met a great person who happens to be my friend and photographer, @jrw_photo. This talented guy, have helped me take the blog to another level with his productions.
Also, my graduation from Miami Dade College and the new beginning at FIU (Florida International University), the AMAZING people I've met, the birth of my niece, my first time going to great events as a blogger, including Miami Swim Week and the collaboration I've done with brands that I've admired for such a long time!
Some other amazing highlights of 2015 include my travel adventures, I feel so blessed of having the opportunity to explore and create memories with people I love! Going to Paris and Rome was definitely among the most beautiful experiences I've had and I just can't stop being thankful for that. I also did a quick stop in Venezuela for a couple of days, even when it was a short visit, nothing compares with being home. My family getaways to Naples, Gulf of Mexico, Dominican Republic, Boston, Orlando and North Carolina were also super fun! Nothing compares with spending some time with the family.
"We must take adventures in order to know where we truly belong"
But the best thing about 2015 was definitely having great people surrounding me. I can't ask for a better family, friends, mentor, role models and followers. Each one of you plays an important part on this journey. THANKS!
"There are some people that will make you laugh a little louder, smile bigger and just live a lot better"
Of course, I've faced some challenges that were really tough at the moment, but now, they're just experiences that taught me important lessons. For example, the transition from being a store to a blog was really hard, it took me months and a lot of organization to clear the name of mvtrends.
Also, my grandma passed away on October. Her loss was really hard for me and for the entire family. What you probably didn't know is that when she died, I was on my way to Univision and about to go on air to do a segment on Despierta America. When I got the news I was in shock and devastated, but I kept going. Trust me, it was a huge challenge and really hard time for me going to the studio and talk like nothing happened, but I did it for her, because I knew she would've told me to do it.
I cannot skip the fact that fitting into this world hasn't being easy when you're not part of that "ideal beauty" stereotyped by society. However, this challenge in particularly had made me stronger, more confident and more proud of who I am, how I look and who I've become. As I've said "you don't have to be a size 0, have a beautiful hair or be 6 feet tall to be and feel beautiful or to accomplish your dreams"
"Each pain makes you more strong, each betrayal more intelligent, every disappointment more skillful and each experience more wise"
I can’t wait to see what will happen this 2016, but I have a feeling that a lot of great and exciting things will occur.
I really hope all your wishes come true in this new year. Don't ever forget: "if your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough." Dare to risk, dare to take that first step into something new and stray from the ordinary. You’ll feel nervous for a moment, but you will feel blessed for a lifetime doing something you love. I can promise you that.
Bring it up 2016. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
